I currently run rancho 9 ways on the rear of my ride and even on the stiffest setting i'm getting a fair amount of separation, car has SS springs clamped on the front sections.
Anyway, it got me to thinking, what single adjustable shocks are available that might offer a stiffer ride, without remortgaging the house to pay for them.
Any ideas.
Mick

Is there anything in between afco and what i've got price wise. Just googled the single adjustables and they are $210 each.

Seem to work well for me

They are rebuildable they may be able to revalve to suite your needs if you need more control

with super stock springs, how can you begin to control that seperation?

I thought that was the whole idea behind that spring...

What would you suggest ?, bear in mind, this is at most a 600 hp car.

Mick,
I can help with shipping, as in, got a guy who works for me, who will be going to the states in Dec. Just need to pay UK postage, so $210 at todays rate is £134 + £10 ? for UK postage or for any shock you decide, any little savings help

You would just need to get them sent to my mates, let me know if your interested

Mick, aren't you on caltracs? Does the car 60ft best on the stiffest extension settings?

deaks, Im not sure I have the answer, but I had always been under the assumotion that SuperStock Springs work because of the massive seperation... Now if thats not correct, im not sure. If you buy afcos, make sure yu call eric and tell him you want the big dog valving because I had to send mine in once already. I still cant control it, so I am probably putting red shocks on my car

Thank you i really appreciate that.

No caltracs here, best 60ft on a decent track, 1.44 shocks on 9
Josh
Thanks for the tip.
Pricewise, there's not much difference qa1's to Afco single adjustables.
To be fair, a bit more converter stall might help the 60ft's at present 4800.

Which SS springs do you have? At 600HP I would hope you have 002/003 springs. Any of the others are really too soft for that much power and will seperate a bunch. Just my opinion, others will undoubtedly disagree.

Personally I would put Caltracs and monoleafs on it and never look back.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

When you use the rancho's every adjustment affects the extension and compression. So for the stiff setting on compression it is also stiff on the extension not allowing the car to lift in the back as easy and put weight on the back tires. The lose setting is the same fast sepration but no compression. The afco's you adjust each one seperate. On mine I have them lose as can be on the extension and firm on the compression. I do have the extension 2 setting firm on the drivers side to control roll over so the rear lifts equally. Spend the money on the shocks it is well worth it especially for small tire cars.

Sorry to Hijack, That is something I didn't know, I thought Compression damping (jounce) was fixed on the Rancho's.
Goes someway to explaining why my car does what it does.

It might have been. Its been about 4 years since I have had the rancho's. When I had them off the car I would mess with the settings and extend and compress the shock to see how they acted for each setting.

Sounds feasable, when the rancho's numbers are low (softer),the car has a tendancy to "porpoise".
The car weight transfers to the rear, squats (more with the softer setting, tyres dig in, rear then seperates (so violently the body inertia pulls the tyre from the asphalt and we spin), the car drops down and repeats down track to a lesser degree.
The higher number controls the seperation and the squat it seems. (not in that order though )

Keep in mind that a rear tire wants to act like a basketball when its smacked into the pavement. The harder you throw it at the pavement the more force it exerts when it tries to come back to its original form. This is where the real advantages of a double adjustable come into play. The compression setting on the shock counteracts the tire wanting to bounce back at the car. You can look in the archive section an read all about shocks from one of the people at AFCO who came on here for a QandA
