When you use the rancho's every adjustment affects the extension and compression. So for the stiff setting on compression it is also stiff on the extension not allowing the car to lift in the back as easy and put weight on the back tires.

Sorry to Hijack, That is something I didn't know, I thought Compression damping (jounce) was fixed on the Rancho's.
Goes someway to explaining why my car does what it does.

It might have been. Its been about 4 years since I have had the rancho's. When I had them off the car I would mess with the settings and extend and compress the shock to see how they acted for each setting.

Sounds feasable, when the rancho's numbers are low (softer),the car has a tendancy to "porpoise".
The car weight transfers to the rear, squats (more with the softer setting, tyres dig in, rear then seperates (so violently the body inertia pulls the tyre from the asphalt and we spin), the car drops down and repeats down track to a lesser degree.
The higher number controls the seperation and the squat it seems. (not in that order though )

Keep in mind that a rear tire wants to act like a basketball when its smacked into the pavement. The harder you throw it at the pavement the more force it exerts when it tries to come back to its original form. This is where the real advantages of a double adjustable come into play. The compression setting on the shock counteracts the tire wanting to bounce back at the car. You can look in the archive section an read all about shocks from one of the people at AFCO who came on here for a QandA
