Hi everyone, new member here, so here goes my first post. I am doing a ground up resto on a '68 GTX 440 hemi 4-speed Dana 60 rear. It is an AA1 silver metallic S6R Aztec maroon car. My question is that is this a rare combo? I have only seen a '68 coronet r/t like this 20 years ago and none sinse. Also on the fender tag it has ubs on the third line, mine under the u says r, under the b says 8, under the s 1. Any idea what these mean? Any info would be great. Thanks.

Relatively rare. Silver is an extra cost color in those years and one of the lesser common colors. Not a lot of Silver cars to start with, so when you break it down to interior colors naturally the pieces of the pie get smaller.

1968 Plymouth:
AA1 = "buffed silver metallic" an extra cost color (A=silver roof, A=silver body, 1=monotone paint style)
S6R = Sport vinyl bucket seat interior "RED"
U = UDF = Upper Door Frame paint color - R = "burgundy metallic"
B = Buffed paint = sales code 708
S = Stripes = sales code 311 = "BLACK" sport stripes

in 1968 the S6R interior was simply "RED" for Plymouth

I think you'll find the "buffed silver metallic" is a middle-of-the-road color on the '68 GTX, not the most popular & not among the rarest.

& since all 8 available interior colors would go with the AA1 exterior paint (not quite sure about the black & gold) - that would enhance the uniqueness of each color combination. Moparts member cdp has a '68 GTX convertible that is AA1 with the S6V interior, there shouild be some pics of it somewhere. Got pics of your car?

Lots of reading & info at HAMTRAMCK-HISTORICAL

& since one of the ad cars were AA1 and S6R, I'd bet there are quite a few in that color combination!!!

Good point. It's the cheaper Road Runner and Super Bees that seem you don't see Silver in very often in.

I agree. Siver with red or maroon interior is an awesome combination. A red stripe would be icing on the cake.

You could "AMD" (su)revive that one no problem

The old saying "you can't save them all" doesn't exist anymore .........back to the '68 AA1 GTX, need photos and more photos

When you have a buffed silver AA1 68 hemi car, I believe that is fairly rare. Are there other rarer 68 hemi colors? Possibly I just don't know. But I can add that my AA1 68 hemi rr with the blue delux interior according to Govier is a one of one combination. One with the maroon/red would certainly look spectacular and be one of only a few at most. Only an opinion no hard facts. Anyone who has seen my buff silver car just loves the color AA1. Best regards.

I'm on a smart phone don't think I can send pics without an email. The car probably should have been salvaged but I like saving mopars. I saved a '68 charger r/t about 4yrs ago and still own it. Living in a smaller GM town people really like seeing old mopars.

Hey mike you are a funny guy! You certainly are smarter than me because you came up with a picture of my car that I have never seen. Hope to see you when the weather gets warm again. Best regards.

AA1 is rare with that or any color combo 73 coded car. When was last time you saw another one ?..not common! When I owned your car Bill, I drove the wheels off it too! (between 01-03) I'm still running a 68, not so wanted color but lots of fun! Its kinda grown on me tho-

Hey rick small world. Nice to have you pop up here, At least you can look at a recent picture of the silver rocket. Is the blue one or the green hemi yours in the picture. If its the blue one, no matter how fast yours is ( I know real fast) I don't think you want to spot the other guy that much unless you are just showing off.Ha Ha best regards.

Wow it is a small world, I know a "Rick" that also owned a '68 black with a red interior, 4-speed Hemi coupe road runner and then a '68 Silver with a blue decor interior, Hemi, coupe, auto (that now has my heater box in it ) and they look exactly like the two rr's posted here. Rick never sold the black one but he did sell the silver one..........

MikeR

Bill, QS&L tomorrow, 2pm -5pm ??

Not a Hemi but this was my '68 road runner in FF1........I miss it too

I bought a new A4 Silver Metallic Road Runner in April 1969, from what I remember that was a very popular color. When I ordered mine there was another A4 RR on the lot I could have bought (it was a hardtop I wanted a coupe). Silver Metallic did not cost extra!

Rick is the black car the before of the before and after? I know your green hemi runs well (Mid 12's?). Also it's really nice to see pictures of a lot of really nice B bodys. I like them a lot. So has anyone else got some pictures.
