Whiskyrunner and I went to the last race of the season at Pittsburgh Raceway Park and ran a couple of new bests with the 408. Matt wanted to try his hand at box racing today so he was today's driver. He broke into the 9's with a 9.98@130.25mph the eight mile time was 6.26@107.42mph. 60' time was a 1.34
He lost in the second round today as the wind made dialing a little tricky. Over all I am happy with the performance with this combo. I think the power glide transmission is hurting some but its very consistent. We are running 93 octane gas mixed with one gallon of 110. ( 4-1 ratio) I plan on building another stroker as a backup for next year going with higher compression and a bigger cam.

congrats I was wondering are you running factory front suspension and steering components? I am thinking of upgrading mine I was curious because of how light you got the car

Thanks Todd. I did a lot of upgrades to the car this year while waiting to get the Daytona in the body shop. Matt wanted the 360 that we ran last year for his car so I built a new 408 for this year. Some of the upgrades were changing the car to a powerglide, fitting the adapter plate, new tranny mount, shifter, drive shaft, new set of double adjustable ladder bars, rewired the car and added a racepak and dash, new fuel pump and lines from cell to carb. The new engine sounded and felt great on the warm up road but on its first pass my BG regulator stuck open and sent 22# of fuel pressure through the engine. I thought for sure it washed the rings as it sounded and ran like crap for a couple of test sessions. With the info from the racepak we finally turned things around.

Its a box tube frame car with a front mounted rack and pinion. The car has a factory type strut setup and disk brakes but I don't know what type of car they came from. I will probably unload the car today and I will try to post some pictures of the setup. I love how the previous owner mounted the front end. It has stock metal fenders and by removing 4 bolts behind the front tires it lifts right off. 2 guys 2 minutes or less. I would recommend using an after market strut and brakes as it would be lighter and easier to get parts if you need them.

Congrats
Despite the weight, it does run good for a fairly mild motor. These small blocks never cease to amaze me.

I think I was more excited then he was Harold. He did say to me " I wouldn't touch a thing for next year" But you know me. I will probably paint it over the Winter and with edelbrock coming out with new heads there will be another bullet on the engine stand. Here are some pictures from yesterday. Also congrats go out to Nick Bowman for his runner up yesterday. That kids a machine.
