hey guys
wanted to get a fiberglass bolt on trunk lid for my Cuda and not sure which to get?
looking at Glasstek or AAR fiberglass
anyone else use them? how is quality and is the latch area pretty sturdy?
just wanting to know if they are worth the $300-$350 bucks!

thanks

I had a bolt on lid for my 69 Barracuda from AAR. Nice piece, plenty sturdy.

I have parts from Glasstek and AAR for my Duster. Quality is top notch on both.

I have dealt strictly with AAR , and have always gotten a quality product.

Here is a pic of the AAR fiberglass bolt-on trunklid top. The pic of the bottom I took turned out too dark to be useful !

A couple caveats :

1. Adjustment is made via the trunklatch. Is your latch support in good shape ? AMD sells new ones if not.

2. Depending on year, you may have problems reaching the bolts when bolting the inner "steel inserts" My car is a '72, and I believe the other years have a slightly different config. AAR just cut out a little recess, so I could reach my ham-fists back under there.

3. Be prepared to do a lot of "futzing" to make it fit right. Recommend a new trunk weatherstrip. You'll need to read the instructions in your FSM body manual - they sound a bit odd, but the instructions work when followed to a "T" - esp the overlap part.

Good luck.

here is my Glasstek trunk lid I got today!

quality is really nice and paid $339 shipped to my door

I had to reuse all the mounting stuff from the old trunk lid except for two bolts

here are pics with my fiberglass AAR spoiler I got from Year One
came out pretty good fit just got to tweak it some more to get the gaps perfect

metal trunk lid weighs 21 lbs
fiberglass trunk lid & spoiler 15 lbs

I have a fiberglass bolt on and I was disappointed I had to do the cutting on the lid. I also didn't want to have to position the nut strip inside the lid because the stock lid uses ohillips screws to lock the nut plate and I wasn't sure I could get it all lined up. Did you have a problem?

That lid looks good. Fantastic install job.

Yes, to install my lid, I had to have AAR cutout some of the underside, so I could get the nut strips bolted up . Doesnt look "stock" now, but I really could give a flying flip - this is a "worthless" '72 ( apologies to UNLAWFL for stealing one of his pet phrases)

nope no problem at all
as you can see the little blue philips screw is there. the Glasstek lid is almost the exact copy of my metal trunk lid!
