I just got the 604 predator in the car and pulled the 572 B1 out. I am thinking about the next step. The question is....should I build another Predator (given the one I have runs .3-.5 faster than the B1), should I try to find a used set of B1 PSO's or M/C's, or just run the B1 I have on NOS to compensate? I don't have the cost yet on the wedge Predator package, but I have several sets of B1 dragster headers, and will have 2 sets of Predator headers. My current B1 combo runs in the mid 7.30's to low 7.40's at Vegas. I would like to be in the 7.15-7.20 range to make the quick 16 bump at the divisional level on the west coast. I'm just looking for opinions which head package would make the most sense and why.

Hi,
Dont take this the wrong way, but if I think logically, your current combo B1 combo runs mid 7.30's to Low 7.40's, your current Predator runs .3 - .5 secs quicker, which would put you in the 7.15-7.20 range, which is where you want to be.

For commonality, why wouldn't you replicate what you have & build another Predator motor ?

Sell both and build a huge hemi 99?

I'd say sell it and build another predator combo, as stated above, for commonality purposes.

11.48 @ 120 with a 1.80 60' 318, stock 1.88 heads, stock 904, Pump Gas, 13 lbs of boost.

9.94 @ 134, 318 on pump gas, 14 lbs w/ Eddies, transbrake 727, 3600 lbs, 3.54 gear and 28's.

That's kinda what I was thinking but the cost is the sticking point. It's worth it and all, but I would need pistons, cam, and head package. In reality, That's probably what I'll wind uo doing though. I'm just waiting to see how this one runs. PS I thought about the Hemi99 too, but man what a pricetag!

If you plan on racing for a long time, classes are going to get faster so the move to a Hemi99 style motor makes a lot of sense if it doesn't kill you with cost or maintenance. How fast was the class you want to keep up with five years ago? Time goes fast!

The problem with the Hemi99 is, it costs $55,000-$60,000 to build a 650" Hemi. And as you've seen here, they make 1360HP which is very impressive, but totally out of reach for me finacially. If I can't make the show with the predator, I have 3 options...NOS, Supercomp, or GM 5 inch bore space motor. There is one other option and it might be the best....take up fishing and golf again.

Sell off your excess parts and duplicate the engine you have.If you need to go faster you could still SPRAY

See what the new combo actually runs and take your decision from there, 3 or 4 tenths at your perfromance level does not come cheap. But you knew that already good luck with the new bullet

Tom the 99 parts are out there cheap if you know where to look. The only stickler will be the block. The rest of the stuff can be had for a decent price if you shop around. But you will spend some coin. Keep in mind though you can build 550" with available parts and blocks which can be had very reasonably.

If it were me I would build the B1 and make it able to handle a decent shot. After all this is a backup piece right? You might be surprised how fast it can go with a 300 shot or better.

Even at 550CI it's a very peaky combo, isn't it? Educate me but I'm thinking tyhe smartest thing us the NOS. I just don't want another variable to deal with while bracket racing. Pending the pricing Steve gives me, I'll do another Predator if I can afford it.

Johny,
I am very interested in how your PSO deal runs. My problem is, I don't have enough money to just pay $27,000 for a motor. I have to save and gather parts until I have enough to build a motor. Even when I did the one with Steve, it took me over a year to pay for it. I saw Diablo's combo for sale, too. I would love to have either of those bullets to put in my car. Pete's and Diablo's motors are both great deals. I just can't put out that much cash all at once.

Tom, No doubt it would still be peaky but I think with more stroke and a little less aggressive cam profile maybe they could do well. A fellow member here has one but never really heard him post much about it.

I still think for a back up piece building what you have for some spray is the easiest, quickest lest expensive way to go and done right might be quicker and more consistent than you think.

Al,
Will you be bringing that car with the hemi to MATS?

Intake?
carb-s?
headers?
rpm range you run it in?
any Hp and Tq numbers?
Piston ring combo?
cam lca?
valve spring type/size/manufacturer?
rocker type and ratio?
pushrod size/wall thickness?

I'm just curious if there's something that can be done to your combo during freshen up.

Intake? B1
carb-s? APD 1150
headers? Several but stepped 2 1/4-2 3/8 4 1/2" collector
rpm range you run it in? 7500RPM
any Hp and Tq numbers? No
Piston ring combo? Light ring stack with vacuum pumps 14"@7000 RPM
cam lca? 113
valve spring type/size/manufacturer? Manley Nextech 280 seat, 850 open
rocker type and ratio? Jessel 1.7
pushrod size/wall thickness? 3/8 Smith Bros

I'm just curious if there's something that can be done to your combo during freshen up.

It's built for light NOS use and I don't intend to freshen it up until I build the next project. It only has 104 runs on it. I know if I changed the cam and pistons to non-nitrous use peices, I would pick up a tenth, but I'd like to try the NOS.
