Hi all i just picked up a 66 coronet 440 project car (basket) its currently dissasembled and the body is at paint right now. I want to start collecting parts to get the car running. I want the car to be a good fun cruising car, able to cruise down the freeway, that idles almost stock drives almost like stock but has a butt load of power when I need it. So this is what I am looking at building. Anyways I am starting with a 69 440, scat rods, studs and girdle, TRW forged pistons should be 8.2-1, steel crank. 906 heads, stock size valves, with some mild port work, hydraulic cam 228at .050 int and exhst, .492lift on a 113lobe sep. M1 single plane 48lbhr injectors, megasquirt, 1000cfm tbody, Custom log manifolds, single masterpower t76 Q trim with 1.00 a/r. I also have a nice water to air intercooler I might try out if I have enough room.
The trans is a 727 that will be getting performance rebuild with a mild shift kit, 2400 stall converter, and the rear will be an 8 3/4 with either 2.76 or 2.93 gears, cant remeber wich right now. the car is getting mini tubs and relocated springs. tires will hopefully be 325/45/17 drag radials My goal would would be to run in the 12s or faster and still be able to cruise on the hiway.
So what do you guys think? Should it do what i want?
Thanks

This went 12.0's w/ 6psi of boost. Probably would have gone faster w/ 3.55's instead of 3.91's Your engine has way more go-fast stuf in it. You might want a tad more gear...3.23's at least. This engine was a .030 over stcok 70 rebuild w/ unported 906 heads, summit 488 cam, RPM intake, Proformed 750DP, 1 3/4 headers, 175K conver and 3.91's. All stock steel 67 coronet (3850lbs) car ran great and you could drive it anywhere.

Hey thanks for the reply! Do you guys think it would be worth just rebuilding the stock rods, and puttting the $$ for rods someplace else?

just buy a set of new rods, they are cheap enough. Although mine was a baisc rebuild, even used cast speed pro pistons

sounds like a awesome ride....ditch the stock rods....if you add the cost to remove off pistons, mag rods, buy rod bolts, rebuild the rods and press back on...it is almost as much as buying new rods...just have the new rods checked(big end, little end and length)
