Ok, I can get clear plastic coated braided cable from the hardware store for 24 cents a foot. I need two 23 inch lanyards, looks like I am into it for ruffly 50 cents so far.

I already own crimpers. Where do I find the ends?

LOL, I don't need the whole pin kit ($50-give or take), just replacement lanyards. So why pay for the shipping and all that for something that I can make in my garage.

The best I could come up with was aviation grade cable ends part number MS20668-2. They are not quite the same and they are $4 each. So now I am into it for about $16.50. Where do the "kit" makers get their parts?

This would be a really simple project if I could just find the ends.

As a last resort, anyone have a link to just replacement lanyards? They might be just as cheap.

i hear ya, trust me! i was serious about electrical connector. find the right size remove the plastic end, crimp it on and dip it in Plasti-kote! if you don't need to be 100%, why not? or go to your local parts store, buy the cheap hoodpin sets and just use the pre-made lanyard.

look in a marine supply store, or deep sea fishing store. fishing towers/outriggers use stainless cables, with various crimped fittings, and fishing deep sea uses leaders and trolling rigs, also with various types of wire and crimped fittings.

Yeah, these are a nicopress type. They are probably the best design for actual use in preventing your hood from coming up. Those along with the electrical cable eyes, which would not work at all for real, just don't look right.

There has to be something. I think the fishing stuff was a good idea but I have not been able to find anything on-line about that either.

Living in Oklahoma, we doesn't have much deep sea fishing...lol

I may end up breaking down and buying a pin kit, but I still think that someone would have just the lanyards or just the ends. They have to be coming from somewhere.

So let me get this straight, I am assuming this is for the car in your sig, 1970 440-6 cuda, if it is a real 440-6 car it's worth what north of 50k ???, you are crying about spending 5 bucks plus shipping? ...

I'd have to go look at my A body glove box but I'm pretty sure the end is just a crimp on electrical connector, without the little insulator that some have, that is crimped on the cable , nothing special or secret .

LOL, yeah go look again. It is not just an electrical connector. Those are the really cheap looking aftermarket ones. It would not be a big deal for me to make one of those. I want to get it right,(the devil is in the details). I am not accustomed to just throwing money away, not when I can think it through a little.

Ummm...I would have thought this was obvious, but the function of the cable is to retain the clip to the car. The clip and the pin perform the function of "preventing your hood from coming up". (assuming the hood latch and the brain hook fail)

I'll have to ck and see where I put them. But I had an extra set of the lanyards( don't know what length - so I'll have to ck )

Otherwise contact one the manufaturers ( either BEA or Dales Cuda shop ) and see if they'll sell just the lanyards

Ok, I was sent a PM with my answer. Thank you very much. I will keep their name anonymous, but thank you.

I had already looked there but I must have over looked it.

Dale's 'Cuda shop has what I have been looking for...

The price isn't bad either.

Gosh..., your soooo smart....LOL

Yeah, I thought that someone would make an issue out of that the minute that I wrote it, but it was not worth going back and correcting.

$20 delivered from Dales or Dantes - perfect replica of originals. How much are you going to spend on gas driving around looking for ends?

Just for fun, I was out anyway. I was at the hardware store and picked up some 1/16 inch plastic coated braided cable. 2 feet cost me 50 cents. This was green coated dog run wire rope. I always keep a box of electric connectors at the house. I made up some cheap style lanyards for fun. I think I will put them on my car at Christmas...LOL

What a hoot!

Bash away...lol That is why I posted these.

NICE!!! but i don't think they'll hold the hood on. maybe a number 10 gauge connector? (BTW, those are NOT the connectors i meant, electrical supply store, not Home Depot)
