buddy of mine and I are about to build a forged 5.9L EFI, Blown motor for his truck.

We've got a piston in mind that we'll probably go with...forged, the manufacturer says they're good for boost, and they give a near ideal Compression of 9.5 for good efficiency in non-boost driving, yet low enough to tolerate a healthy dose of pressure at WOT (with meth injection too)

but...what pistons are you guys running and how much did they cost...and what special treatments need to be done to them?

(coatings...are they needed? stronger pins, are they needed? dedicated pin oiling, are they needed? etc.)

how much boost? how many cubic inches? what power level are you going for?
i think the answers to your questions would be easier if you could share a little more info about the build.

ok

how big? 5.9L 360 cubic inches

target power level 500-ish to the wheels, so 600-650 crank power.

Contact several good race piston companys(Diamond, Ross , JE and so on) and ask them about your combination and their recommendations for it, compare and buy from your findings Thats what I do
