To add to this post,here is what was said at the awards ceremony......

"To wrap up this wonderful evening, we would like to present one very special driver the highest award in our organization. The IHRA Sportsman of the Year Award is our greatest honor. The people that have received this award constitute IHRA’s “Hall of Fame” and we do not take handing out this award lightly.


The IHRA Sportsman of the Year honors the person who best exemplifies what IHRA drag racing should be all about…fellowship, competition, grace and dedication. Just looking at the list of previous winners tells you all you need to know about this award. These are the people who in the past have exemplified what we think IHRA racing is all about.


This year we are adding another deserving name to this list. He is an excellent racer….a former World Champion….and most importantly a great person.


Your 2011 IHRA Sportsman of the Year is Myron Piatek ."
