Hello,
For an engine assy date of 12/19/69, what would be date code correct for the exhaust manifolds casting date? TIA

Ray

Any time from about late August to early December would be within reason!

When the engine was assembled and stamped with the assy date, were the exhaust manifolds attached?

Check out my threa titled "totally anal 340 details" and you will get a better picture of date coded items and how they related to one another.

Where is the EAD on a 340? If it's below the head on the drivers side, how do you read it? My 69 is marked EW340P25880427. The SPD is Dec 9. The block has a cast date of 8-16-68. The exhaust manifolds are 11 27 8 on the right and 11 14 8 on driver's side. The intake is 10 29 8

have a look here, yes it's under the drivers side head surface on the face of the block.

Small block final assembly dates are in that location as part of the engine serial number.

(The engine serial number is often confused with the VIN, they are not the same)

Post your number here & one of us can decode it for you.

I edited my previous post. It looks like mine was an Aug 28 for a Dec 9 SPD although the 2588 could be a 2688? That would make more sense. The second digit is not stamped cleanly. The main parts except the block are mustn't within one month of the EAD. The left head is 11118 and the passenger side is 11218. Everything seemed to be untouched except for plug wires, neg battery cable and lower rad hose. It still had all the A/C lines, compressor and a/c stuff in the engine compartment. It came with a 4 speed D 8 carb on it? I found an H 8 and gave my D 8 to a friend. The 4 speed is stamped PP.....2692 which is Dec 10 if that's the 10000 date? The K frame is stamped 3238 2.

You traded away your original carb? Why?

Keep in mind that your SCHEDULED Production Date was just that, it does not mean it was built that day, it could have easily been built before or after that date. accordingly some of your parts dates may be later than that date if your car was actually built later than scheduled.

I don't think a D8 was original to my Dec car and it was a 68 carb p/n. I found a nice 4611S and the D8 was a perfect date for my friends 68 GTS convertible. I gave it to him because I didn't really think twice about wanting to keep it on my car.
