I recently found this car below. I would usually save it until I did a blog about it. But I don't have the time. What do you guys think about the rarity of such a vehicle? Been sitting in a barn for 25 years he said. It isn't for sale, but I am trying to get information on the car for him. J H23 J = Dodge Challenger H = HIGH 23 = 2 Door Hardtop L0 B or E (first digit of VIN sequence number 1=E or 2=B?) L = 383 290HP 1-2BBL 8 CYL 0 = 1970 B = Hamtramck, MI or E = Los Angeles, CA, USA 2 6 = 26" radiator The vinyl/cloth interior, 6-way, rallye cluster elevate this from your average 383 2bbl non-SE Challenger.

It is actually a B for Hamtramck. The EN1 / EN2 codes are one way to tell, LA used END.

I've had 4 1970 challengers Bo on BO, and have seen a bit more over the years. Most folks in the 1980's-90's converted alot of the interiors over to black when they got worn or replaced. Nice color, would be a fun builder car.
Not particularly rare.
And actually seems not that desirable. I don't mind the color but it tends not to excite and even turn people away from a car for sale.

I bought one that was a 318 three speed stick car to convert into a six pak clone car, I ended up selling it to a college professor before it was done I did get to finish it and dirve it some, lots of fun, 440 six pak with a 18 spline tranny and dana 60 with 3:54 gears on BF Goodrich darg radials, with the road race rear springs and big torsion bars and sway bars front and rear All of the interior including the door panels where shot, I replace them all with Legendary parts, the car ended up with Hemi orange paint and a Black R/T interior
Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

I agree completely. Though it may be a little unusual, I have seen more than a few and with the 383 2bbl it really isn't all that desireable. Good car to turn in to a restomod or a "day two" street rod.

When I bought my convertible I wasn't all that excited about the color combination. However, after searching for a nice Challenger convertible off and on for 5 years at that time, I had decided beggers can't be choosers. Burnt orange has grown on me since then. In addition to the vert, I now have a '71 Challenger in dark autumn bronze which is a similar color. I like my B5 '09 but sort of wish I'd waited for toxic orange! In the meantime, my F5 red T/A project is hard for me to get excited about as there are so many red Challengers out there. And purple, bright green etc. These colors are starting to get boring to me after seeing so many E bodies painted in these hues. Part of what got me into Mopars was being unique and not following the crowd. I wish my vert had those cloth seats instead of vinyl!
Beggers can't be chosers! The people that hold out for one certain particular car and color scheme tend to overpay and get bad quality cars.
Especially the ones just getting into the hobby. I've seen newbies pass up cars that would fit thier experiance perfectly. But because they wanted a particular model, color, year, etc., they ended up with a messed up money pit that was too much project for thier own good.

FK5 is one of my favorite colors, and I especially like the orange interior. Personally, I wouldn't let color sway me much one way or another, but I would tend to avoid FC7, FM3, and FJ5.....not a huge fan of FE5, either; any of those colors with a black interior is WAY overdone. My favorites are EF8, FK5, EB7, EB3, FY4 and EW1. Dave

My Wife's first car was a T/A, with this combo and an alligator top. We absolutely HATED the combination, but I would absolutely love to find this car again. It's amazing how a few, actually many, years changes one's outlook!
Got any pictures?

I see you are in CA, one of the two I know is from there. Do you know what options it had? Transmission, console or not, radio type, etc?

I know of a fully loaded RT/SE in that color here around Fresno. 440/727/AC/power windows/leather/etc.
Would that be a sun roof car Jim? Could years ago was at Ed Briggs shop and he was finishing up an awesome RT/SE that loaded to the gills.

Was that painted purple at one time. Julius sold him a sun roof car once. IIRC, it was painted purple.

No think Ed still has that one. The orange one was a customer's car that he was working on.

Interesting, the CA car I know of is a possible match then.
I can contact the owner to see if he would like to compare notes with you if you like?
Great photos also, got anymore?
I would love to add those to the page at http://www.challengertaregistry.com/vintage.html if it is OK with you?

Feel free to use the pics, if you want. I have attached one more.
I would love to talk to the current owner, if possible. I tried to p.m. my contact info, but was not able to.
Thanks, Bill

I found this car in a friend of a friends garage buried under a bunch of junk and boxes. He painted it and applied the hood treatment and then lost interest. I looked at the VIN and almost lost it. JS27N0. I crawled under the passenger side to look at the engine rail above the oil pan and the almost lost it again when I saw that the numbers matched. Spent about three years working on her and then decided to sell it when my wife got deathly ill (took time off work unpaid). Miss that car. Fender tag detailed that it came from the factory with a white top and longitudal stripe. The hood treatment was already black and the new top was installed before I bought the car so I left it FK5 and black.
