An electric water pump and a lot of batt voltage, Be prepared to charge a lot between rounds, 16 volt systems work better than 12

My advice, don't.

Modern alternators use so little power it's a moot point. In fact with all the electronics and electrical accessories on race cars these days it may actually be quicker with an alternator and probably certainly more consistent due to keeping the voltage steady.

Since all the car will do is track time I figure the alternator is just a drag on the engine so since its just a track why not dump the alternator , just an idea maybe its little gain if any at all

Your better off with the voltage.... I have put a switch
on the field wire so I could shut it off on a run and
also took the belt off .... I didnt see ANY difference
in the ET so now I run a alt(85 amp Denso... production
Chrysler with my own pulley set up)
EDIT
and I dont have to charge between rounds... the last
time I had a charger on my car was YEARS ago when
I un-plugged my alt wire and alt wire and forgot
to plug it back in

Don't do it Keep the alternator, if anything put a bigger amp rated one on now I've done what Mike(MRPBODY) did on my NHRA stocker, it ran faster with the alternator on and working than it did with it off of the car

I have been racing for years and never run a alternator. I always have to charge the battery as often between rounds as I can. A Rock 16 volt battery is one of the best I have found to use not running a alt. and its a plus when cranking.

And yes now that I run alcohol and never have to cool the engine,I thought why not run a alt. and never have to charge the battery again. But with running a belt drive fuel pump & vacuum pump(dragster) there is no room left for a alt. I would try running a cheap one if I could but if it hurt my ET it would go in the trash can.

PS best way to find out if you would be better with-out one is to try it. You can pick up a cheap belt at Advance and if it works all you have to do is pull the alt. off,if its no help you are only out a few $$$. If I can try something for only a few $$$ to speed my car up,I'll spend the few extra $$$ every time.

Two deepcycle batteries in the trunk. I have made 16 passes in a row without charging the batteries. MSD7, pro power coil, electric water pump, electric fuel pump, fan (sometimes)and 12.5 compression for the starter. I am not affraid to double enter and not charge the batteries. 16 passes from a full charge it finally started to miss a tiny amount.

We ran our car without a alternator for many years..in fact 20 years.Always charging the batteries,or swapping them out after time trials etc.I installed a 55 amp Denso style alternator and it was the best thing I did.No more battery charging and one less thing to do between rounds.I have upgraded to a 100 amp alt from Tuff Stuff.Did the upgrade as I'm planning on street duty in the future.
