If you popped your engine and basically everything under the heads was junk, how many of you guys could just build another short block without thinking, planning or bugeting the build. There is no way I could, It would take me a few years more than likely to be able to afford another "nice" piece.

Hey Kasey, I know what you mean there! If you remember my post "512 Stroker, ZERO power"....still collecting parts and spending $$$$$...I found that either machine shop over-look or my mistake building the engine, ate the cam bearings. Found out cam tunnel off by .003". Might be able to fix, but by the time I spent the cash to fix the block, might as well get another. AND, new bearings...rings...clean...hone...etc...ads up quickly! Jeff

Yep, I was thinking about it the other day when I found my carb came loose from the main body to the base plate. I thought, man if I would have leaned out, butned up the pistons, or ate a carb screw, theres NO way I would be able to enjoy the car again for quite a while.

I have too many irons in the fire already.

The engine I'm building for my Rampage is just stuff
I have laying around the shop... I had everything except
lower compression pistons... I have most of the big
stuff to build another also... but that would have to
be a W-2 engine... the one going into the Rampage is a W-5

Three words.. back up engine .
Without that, I'd be done for a good while.

I shouldn't say that,, I'd find some piece of junk to cam up and put heads on.

I was in this situation last year.

After the second motor blew, I had no way of recovering from that. If it had not been for this board and the generosity of it's members as well as my sponsors my car would have been siting a very long time.

I have the stock "#'s" 383 sitting in the corner of my garage. I'd probably be forced to go that route while I built another bullet, which would take me a year or so to get the "spare cash" through the wife's approval. It took me about 18 month.s to build my 452, and its a low budget effort by this boards standards.

I kept my 340 short block as a back up for the 408.

I spent more on the 493 eng then I ever have as I actually bought new good parts for this eng and no way could I afford to build another right now even with me building it myself. I do still have my old mid 11 second 440 sitting in my garage even though I sold it to my buddy. Well if its still sitting there in my garage and I would ever need another eng.... ...... . Ah I just hope this one stays together as long as all my budget engines have as actually none of them have ever broke on me. Ron

Took me 5-years to get the new 500" stroker together after the old 451 dropped a valve. Alot of planning and saving for parts, and some changes along the way, along with the usual "unexpected" issues needing more research, parts and $$$$.

Well I still have my old 360 SB I could screw together pretty cheaply. In fact with all the hassle I've had with this new stroker I was thinking of doing just that. But it's all coming together now.
