Another question for you guys.

I am having my car painted. It's a real FC7 inviolet (plum crazy) 1971 BS23 'cuda.
When I bought the car, it was a kind of ford blue. I want to paint the inside of the trunk the correct color and my painter has told me that he will paint it what ever color I would like. He paints a lot of chevys and has suggested a black with a gray speckle.
I don't know if the trunk has ever been repainted but it looks like it hasn't to me. The beam in the very back where the trunk lid latch attaches is purple and the beam that is way in the front of the trunk that goes across the back seat is purple. Most of the rest of the trunk (floor and over the wheel well bumps) is kind of a brownish burnt gold color. Just about every car that I have seen on the internet and at car shows is painted body color inside the trunk. I really want to get this right.

Can anyone tell me what is correct and a way to tell my painter what to get?

Paint it with the same paint as you are using on the outside of the car. Do not let him use GM specle paint in there. I am guessing that the brownish burnt gold is rust stains.

Like everyone said; body color is correct! For gods sake, don't let them splatter paint it: that's a sure fire sign that the restorer had no clue what he was doing.

I looked at a really nicely done '70 RR locally. Guy had spent big $$$'s but this was his first mopar. The shop painted the engine compartment chevy black and the truck in grey chevy splatter paint....that killed a bunch of the value of the car which was for sale 3 months later.

That is what I thought at first too but I cleaned it up real nice and it is paint.

Ok, it sounds pretty easy. I will tell him to use body color.

Thanks guys

The gold is probably the true original color..
the dark blue was likely a repaint color change.

The true original color was purple. The fender tag has FC7 and everything that was not painted blue, was purple when I bought the car. I know for a fact that the blue was a repaint.

My car had a redish brown primer showing through on some parts of the body. I don't know if the factory used the same color primer on all colors but that could be what you are seeing in the trunk.

A picture would help.
That particular color that you described could be explained.

The factory has accidently painted the unibody an incorrect color. Later in time, the factory may have corrected the paint???
There are several know examples.
Another option: is the trunk color more of a factory red primer?

That looks like what I could be seeing. The color really looked like it had more of dark mustard/red clay. The more I look at your picture, the more I bet that it is just forty year old primer or it was painted that color when the blue was shot on.

I really don't care what it is now anyway. I just want to know what is correct so I can make it that way.

Hey that trunk picture looks awful familiar. That was an NOS trunk pan that I installed in that 70 Cuda.

Now that I have the trunk floor cleaned up, I can see that someone sprayed the "whatever" color over the purple. Forgive the bad cell phone quality but you can see the purple where the redish brown has worn away. I am just going to paint it all back in-violet, and replace all the body plugs.
