I am not trying to take over this guys thread.I asked what application.all of this is just in my opinion.just like yours.
How many of you that have replied have exploded a 727? I am not talking about poping the top of the case off.I mean shooting the case, drum, retaining clip for the drum, clutch material, plus chunks of who knows what through the blanket, and car.this has been a timely thread going on for a while on here. I choose to run a turbo 400 now.just my choice.Cheaper than a 727 & stronger. I have seen plenty of c-6's hold up to a ton of power with a few low buck parts in them.
You can make anything hold up with enough money in it. But then why?I thought this was supposed to whats safe & affordable....

I don't see anybody here claiming TF's don't explode, I've got a whole photo album devoted to them.

Stronger? I'll buy that but cheaper?

Maybe so but that doesn't mean "the c-6 is better than a 727" like you claim in your first reply. Of the big three 3-speed automatics the C-6 has the weakest case, so much so they sell a pan girdle for them and I've seen a high pressure C-6 blow the side of the case out taking the band adjust screw with it.

You mean like the one in the pic below?

Since this has now devolved into the typical conversation of chest thumping "Mongo say TorqueFlite good - everything else bad"...
Might as well counter the grenaded TH400 and show a grenaded 727 if that is the game.

A few years back I remember reading this article about a fastback Chevy II Nova (yes, you read that correctly) that had a 727 behind its Chevy motor.

i think his point was that they all can, and do, blowup. i don't need to thump my chest. i drive a mopar. it has a 727 in it. you'll notice that the front drum isn't there anymore. any moron knows that that is THE Achilles heel of the 727. mine has a billet drum. among other things. it's as reliable as anything else out there. anything can be made reliable if you spend a little on the right things. right? surely you know that?

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

I don't see anybody here saying that "everything else is bad" and I'll counter your measly three pics with a whole album of TF mayhem.

The point being...they all blow up, that's why sanctioning organizations require shields on ALL BRANDS.

Looks like a shield is not fool proof

Scary pictures! Carnage and destruction.

If anyone needs some motivation to build a modernized, billet drum 727, with a shield...viewing your album should definitely seal the deal.

There was a factory GM motor that had a Chrysler auto trans bolted to it from the factory - 80's era mail carrier Jeeps had Pontiac iron duke 4 cylinder motors with 904 transmissions. That fact let GM cars run 904's in the Stocker classes...

I had one with the Iron Duke/904 in it. I also believe the 6 cylinder Mail Jeeps had 727's in them. They were hodgepodged vehicles, I think they had Ford-styled ignition/distributor setups, Dana axles, etc...pretty much whatever AM General could get for cheap.

Jeeps in the 70-80's had the AMC Torqueflite, I believe they even did a TH400 also. I don't think the bell housing pattern is the same though.
There are a few adapters out there, I would just go with one of those. Or try Pro Trans in California
