Need a little advice from the carb experts, I changed
over this weekend to alky, in my car for some testing
purposes, mostly everything went as planned, with the
exception of 1 problem that croped up, the car will
not do a decent burnout, it pops, and bangs in the
box, like it is on a two step, the car leaves the line
as it
should, but the water box problem has me perplexed,
I did not take my gas stuff with me to change back if
there was a problem, so I didn't get to see if it was
something about the car or the carb, I borrowed the
carb from a friend that ran it on his car, until it
lost the engine a while back, I replaced the pump gaskets.
and cleaned it good, it cranks and idles great, revs great, but
I figured the carb was lean on the front 2 barrels,
being the reason it was popping in the water box, but turning the
air screws out made no difference with the problem, so if someone
has any suggestions I am all ears, the car ran fine last weekend
on gas, so I don't really suspect that there is something
wrong with the car, and to finish up, the car didn't run a
bit faster on alky than it did on gas, can lay time slips
side by side and there is no difference in the et's and mph's
go figure, I have always heard that if you were set up right
on gas going to alky there would be very little gain, but the
car does run a bit cooler.

Thanks
Dave

What's the fuel pressure during the burnout?

Whats the throttle position when performing your burn out? Some of those carbs arent the cleanest running at part throttle.
What I did when I was running injection was add a extra 3 step, limiter. Its easy to over rev a dragster in the box, killing valve springs. I had a 5500 or 6K chip in that side, flip the switch and lay it on the wood.
Also what kind of fuel filer are you running... It needs to be a stainless mesh type filter for sure....
Dont go crazy with plug gap too.... Alky motors dont like wide plug gaps...... about .035-.038 is max..
Hope this helps ya..

7 lbs, I know the way I have it set up
is not the optimal way to run with alky,
but there are a lot of racers doing it
the way I am doing, this was just for
testing purposes, to see if I want
to run it next season.

Thanks
Dave

heres what i learned and picked up from guys ,, if the fuel system is close on gas , the switch to alk, is at best 10-2 tenth mostly for cooling advantage, and some hp gains,, i have seen 3-4 tenths pick up,
idono carb to carb change you did, no info there given?
i know the guys are told to look at mph, and heat gain in the 1/4 -1/8 mile, if it gets colder down track, its lean,, if it gets warmer by 20 deg its to 'fat' , sometimes diffrent heat rang of plugs are also needed to maximize the effect and burn of alk, timming may also come into play, useually couple * less timming ?
it is alittle diffrent game getting the carb set and fine tunning,

oo 7 # most likley not enough

You got it backwards. too fat and temp will drop down track, too lean will get hotter.

I am having to jet up now myself. I was running 165/170 and could never get it hotter with the 440/ 1050 dominator. I stuck a 520 cube under the same system and now it stays at 200. I figure I am really lean, which makes it run hotter. Plug gap is .026 and timing at 36*

Davey you are to lean a MOPAR likes a lot of ALC but could be the carb you should pick up at least 5 hundreds or one tenth and run a lot cooler i have 188 jets in my 1050 RUPERT said i could need more jetting but sounds like a carb problem ? I called Brad and he said it could be a carb problem call Rupert he can fix it.
