Got my turbo 318 running yesterday. Set the timing and fuel pressure and took it around the block....no boost. Found it to be a wastegate issue, got that fixed and now I get about a pound of boost then it goes so rich It just falls on its face and starts smoking like a diesel. I have checked my float level and fuel pressure and all seems well there but now I'm concerned I may have drilled the pcvr's too big. I went with 3/32nds and jetted 72's in the front and 80's in the rear. I thought the 80's may be too big so I disconnected the secondaries and still got the same result. I guess I'm going to buy another metering block and start over tuning without opening the pcvr's

I think the hanger18 site stated Not to drill the pcvr's until its running and you have a baseline setup! Did you get an af/r gauge?? If not I posted a link to an ebay page for a AEM 6in1 setup for $167.00 in my build thread.

What spring did you put in the wastegate? Do you have the boost hose routed from the compressor housing to the top port of the wastegate? Do you have a MBC??

I'm using a narrow band o2 for now with a milivolt readout. Its alittle lazy but seems to respond good. I did swap the metering block to a stock unit but still no change. I'm having trouble setting fuel pressure right now so when I get that figured out maybe it will solve my problem. I've got a boost controller but I haven't hooked it up yet...I actually blocked the wastegate shut so I could try to make some boost but it still is running wayyyyy to rich. If you stand beside the car running it will burn your eyes lol

Did you boost reference the Powervalve? Could be the powervalve stuck open and pouring fuel into the intake. I will be using front and rear powervalves on my setup. Rear powervalve will be boost referenced through the vacuum port on the side of the metering plate. When under boost condition it will force the rear powervalve to stay open.
Here are a few good carb info. sites to review,

This one will show you how to boost reference the rear powervalve,

Yeah, I know it says Blower application but will work for the blow through as well. Maybe these will help you with the carb issues!

I don't think the boost referenced PV's are an issue with a blow through setup. Maybe if the carb is too small, but it would have to be small enough that you start to drop boost under the carb and pull enough vacuum to close the PV's. Aside from that, how are you having trouble setting fuel pressure? Did you boost reference the pressure regulator? How about your spark plugs? Are they cool enough that it isn't detonating and loosing control of the combustion process? Is your coil up to the task of firing a boosted engine? It's possible that it loses its spark and then there's no exhaust to create boost. I'm just throwing out suggestions.

My PV's aren't boost referenced but I figured at my power level it wouldn't be an issue. I'm only running the front PV my sec. metering block wasn't equipped with one. I finally got my fuel pressure set...I had my return and feed crossed up. Fixing that made it run better but it still loads up and chokes out. I've got an MSD coil but its pretty old and I planned on replacing it soon too. I'm running autolite 3923's that were recommended to me on here. I should get a chance later this week to make some of the mentioned changes/checks when the rain moves out.

the carb needs to be boost preped, nitrophyl floats, some drilling her and there. I'm sure you got the book on that. Not sure what you mean by 1lb of boost. Unless you are under load you shouldn't have any boost. You should be able to set the carb up like any N/A carb as far as idle, and initial set up. I'd think for a 318 72/76 would be enough. What PV are you using and how much vacuum are you pulling. The PV could be opening and dumping fuel.

Update on my progress....I've still got a problem going very rich just off idle but I'm now making boost I put a 3lb,lowest I had, spring in the wastegate so I could try to dial in my carb without having too much boost to worry about. I backed the fuel pressure down to 6psi and it seems to like it better there. I'm going to change back to a stock primary metering block because I think my too rich problem may be in the pvcr circuit I drilled too big. I didn't get a chance to swap it today because a trans leak ended my evening early I am very pleased with the off boost drivability though. Being a stock motor it idles and cruses around town like a new car and is surprisingly quiet even with the open down pipe dumping right under the fender. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get the trans leak figured out and start tuning again
