When I was at test and tune last night, when you pust the tranny brake ( griner ) button the car would lurch backward. Anybody know what is causing this? Could it be caused by a front band adjustment too loose?

No, the front band isn't even in use at that point. My guess would be a loss of pressure to the rear clutch assembly or worn rear clutches. This could be clutch seals, valve body leakage, worn bushings or seal ring surfaces. How long has it been together or is this a fresh build?

Check the adjustments... reverse and low are applied and in your case reverse is winning

I also notice that when you put it in low it doen't engage untill you rev the engine a bit. It was rebuilt last summer , about 60 runs on it. What adjustments do you mean?

The low band adjustment is inside the pan if it's loose, but the delayed engagement is a tell tale that it may be something hydraulic vs an adjustment.

No adjustment is going to fix that, you are losing pressure somewhere.

yeah, that's pretty much my thought on it. and the longer the delay in resolving it, the more damage.
