Found a box with 7 brand new MP Hemi rods that came out of a 472 crate motor. Looks like they are a good piece, but the number stamped on them is 2468002. Thinking about just ordering one replacement to make a full set. I'm assuming that is a casting number, because the part number that MoPar has listed don't seem to match. Is that right? I know the motor they came from. Is the casting number different than the PN?

Yep....No one would dare to make the casting number the same as the part number.

That would be too easy, and anyone would be able to figure it out. We can't have that. It just wouldn't be right.

Should be PN P5249898.

MP stopped using them in crate engines around 2007/2008, and went to H beams in everything since then.

I sort of figured. Using the stamping number as the part number is just a little too logical. Thanks, Zippy. They do look like a good, quality piece.

Steve, you need to be able to track and order the raw forging(s) and then the machined part separately. Like the older forged cranks, they had one forging for the small block cranks and multiple part numbers for the finished cranks of different strokes. Same for the R3 blocks, multiple part numbers depending on how they are machined. The bean counters will want to track the forgings and finished parts separately. More than likely the forging house won't do the final machining. If they used the same number for both, chances are pretty good you could order a finished rod and end up with a raw forging. Everything would end up in the same parts bin. Not too good for customer service.
