i ran new hard line up to the motor today because of space have to mount the filter under the car
i bought the tube adapters from summit to go from hard to -an but i cant get it to compress
is there something spossed to do?flare the end? i thought it was just a type of compression fitting
the shank sticks out the nut right?

the brass ferrel should crimp around the hard line when tightened. i spray a little wd40 on everything before i try tightening

a hard line to -an is a 3 piece compression fitting

tube flare nuts are 2 piece fitting and you flare the hard line, and the shank sticks out the nut.

hardline comp fitting has the red nut go on the hard line, then the copper ferrel ring, the the -an hardline adaptor

as you tighten the red nut to the fitting it will compress the line and ferrel

it was kinda hard when i did my line,I used the wood handle to tap the nut on the line then the ferrel the the adaptor taped on to start the threds

you dont whant to run it till its out of threds so it can be open and resealed on that same ferel.

put nut on slid sleave inside with smaller section poking out the nut slid tube in till bottom out on the male -8 fitting
there is no brass ferrel with this just nut and tube sleeve
does the hard line have to be flared?

you shouldnt need to flare it. the brass crushes around the line. thats it. put some wd40 on it. the aluminum sucks when trying to tighten compared to brass fittings

Don't forget that ALL AN fittings are 37 degrees, not 45 degree like SAE are I would not put a brass ferrel on a aluminum line I did use a brass ferrule on a 1/2 inch soft drawn copper fuel line once, it work loose eventually

That's right, compression fittings are for sissys. They should only be used on hard line, like steel. Anything soft and they will leak for sure eventually.
You can use a 45 flare tool, it will compress to 37 when tightened.

Sorry but copper or even aluminum is not the the best choice for fuel lines. It's too soft and can crack from vibration. BTW copper is for LP gas imo.
