I think when you took out the rear it cracked the tail, since you said the drive shaft is fine and you dont have any vibrations.... I'm thinking you never looked to see if it was cracked.... then add a few more launches and.... you know

ALL cars flex its just a mater of how much... I think
the car flex took it out.... even with the rubber mount...
and being NEW its stiffer than a old one..... JMO

When my diff broke it did cause the tail shaft to break in about the same place. It was on the launch off a T brake so it was instant and a little more violent then yours was.
I would suspect that yours was cracked when your diff broke then just took a little longer for it to come apart.
FWIW, my output shaft was OK and just needed a new tail shaft housing but definitely get your checked.

They all break in the same place... through the speedo hole... its just the weak point of the tail shaft... its a matter of what causes it... I have a buddy that has a quick car that went through 3 tail shafts in 4 weekends... his was a bit different but he has a front plate, mid plate and he was running a solid trans mount... I told him the first time to get rid of the solid trans mount... he didnt... then after the third he finally did... since then its been fine.... you cant tell how much flex a car will have

sometimes it hard to say what broke yours? i know of allot of them that racers i personaly know , and race with have broken so many and with diffrent trans in same day that now they carry couple as spares, now for me , i have never broke a 1 not a single one ,, one can blame a previous breakage, etc, i have even heard that tires being out of balance will do it to? ring pinion gears , lose pinion nut,, so i wouldnt say could be all the above, i waiting for someone to mount a camera on that area, and look n see what type of flex is going on in that area during launch and de-accelleration, and what type of forward/rearward movement get involved as well, during a run? just a thought

Should only have 3/4" on the drive shaft length...
so bottoming out sure wasnt the problem

When mine broke I went through the trans to check everything and it was all good so I put a new tail housing on and let er rip.
