Need some input from you guy's that run a hoosier
brand tire, I have ran Phoenix for a long time, but cannot
get the size I needed for my car, have been told Coker has
sold their Phoenix molds to someone in Pennsylvania, cannot
get a confirmation on this but 3 differen dealers told me this,
thus the reason for not being any tires around in the size I run,
anyway I rolled a new set of hoosiers on, and they feel nothing like what I am used to feeling in the car when it leaves, it doesn't
spin and hooks good, but it feels like I am running over rumble strips
when the car leaves, like it is rattling the tires, have been adjusting the air pressure to try and get this squared away, but I haven't been able to do so, but I only have 6 hits on the tires, so all you hoosier guy's give me some input on where to look, maybe this is just the way they are, but I don't like it, car has always been smooth as silk when it leaves, so I am trying to find the magic combination, some input?????????????

Thanks
Dave

Sorry, I don't have the same experience. I'm running Hoosiers and they seem to work as well as anything else I've had, Phoenix, Goodyear, and Mickeys. I really can't notice a whole lot of difference.

Better check your ring & pinion. I ran Hoosier 12 X 32 for years, no problems except they were shot after 75 passes. I hope you are wrong about Phoenix, I need a new set.

What compound are they ? Hoosier makes different compounds and if they are softer or a harder compound... there is the problem.

How much air are you running in them,,,,I was used to Firestone/Pheonix too. I found the Hoosiers like a LOT more air pressure. I run my 29.5X11.5X15W at 12.5-13#. I only have about 40 hits on them and a new car combo, so I am probably not done with the air yet. I started out with the pressure I had ran in the Firestone/Phoenix and was way too low....

I have switched over to Hoosiers this year and they definitely need more air then my old M/T's, i am at 13psi and thinking i might get away with more, especially after what Vern says.

What rear shocks do you have on it? Try putting more shock in it maybe? Might be killing the tires at the hit.

I had hoosiers on mine and couldnt get it to work for nothing on a hot track. Switched to the pheonix tires and it seemed to help.

Going back to Mickey Thompson 3074S tires if I can get these pheonix tires anymore.

Why tubes Vern...? The Hoosier rep told me all their tires are designed to be run tubeless. I asked him why Summit and Jegs show a 'reccomened' tube. His answer was "they just like to sell tubes"..

My M/T's could handle 10-11#s....no way with the Hoosiers I use...they need 12.5-13.5# or they "Chatter" just like the OP says.
Sometimes it was pretty violent.

3600-3700 lbs car needs tubes..trust me..been down that road. no tubes just kills the tire sidewalls.

Tires are the co6 compound, 11.5x29.5W tire, using 13 lbs,
tried them at 12.5, the phoenix liked 14 new and down a 1/4 to 1/2 lbs after 50 to 75 runs, the set of phoenix I pulled off had 276 runs on them, and was still hooking, but the sidewalls were gone, and my lights were all over the place, on the hits I made last night started with a .002 light, adj front tire pressure went .020, next hit was .019, next was .009, another at .016, so the lights were back in line where it needs to be, have another race tonight I am going to up the pressure to 15 and go from there, and see if I can make a difference.

Charlie gear looks good, just checked it, no tubes in the tires, and they are balanced, Qa1 adj shocks on the rear, car is smooth after the launch, it's just that rumble strip feeling it gives when leaving, talked to the hoosier guy this morn, I bought mine from, and he said when you feel the tire chatter like it is doing they are working the best, I am gonna have to call bs on that deal, I don't know but I have had a lot of brands of tires on my car over the years, and have never had a set feel like these do.

Will know in a few hrs, what I can do with this, may just put my old phoenix back on the car, and finish out the season, if I can't get this problem in line.

Dave

well its funny how you couldnt 'feel' it before, then you answered that , the sidewalls where c=gone on the old tires,!!
may be a chassie issue that was being covered up by old worn tires, now that you have new tires, and the sidewall not giving way
maybe a relook at chassie, or bad shock maybe an issue to look at now ??
because it does sound as if a shock has went dead'

OK guy's here the scoop on the tire deal, I added 2 lbs of air, and the car was smooth as silk, dropped another 1/2 lb and it was still
good, so I left it that way for tonight, one of the guy's I race with told me tonight he watched the car on the last pass I ran on friday night and he said it was absolutely killing the sidewalls, thus more air equals a smooth laubch for the car, the tire dealer, who races with us, said there is no way that more air stopped the problem, but like I said it's smooth as silk now, not everyones stuff is set up the same way, and this combo has been beat to death over the years to make it consistent, it's close enough that I have 35 lbs of weight in the car at 1 specific place, and that can be removed and the car will not leave at all, go figure.

So thanks for the replies, I got a handle on it, and all is good.

Dave
