I've rattle canned them in the past and within a year the paint is peeling. A little gas or antifreeze and it comes off. I was thinking of DP90 after sand blasting, would that work well? What do you use?

After cleaning/blasting I use epoxy primer and single stage urethane top coat.

I run them through my hot tank and use engine paint.

Eastwood extreme black chassis paint...

I used it over a freshly sandblasted one and dries like a rock.

Surface prep is more important than what you use although some of the better paints will last longer.

If you can get it blasted that is best. Check for cracks while the paint is off. Paint it as soon as you can after blasting, and if you handlked it it won't hurt to spray it off with thinner to remove any oily spots.

One thing to remember is that it is possible for oxides to form on the surface without the surface looking orange. They disrupt the adhesion of the paint. So time is critical.

DP90 is awesome stuff, just clean it well. Then topcoat it with some Deltron black. No more peeling when gas hits it.

I'm having one reinforced, welded up and chem dipped, then going to get powder coated. probably overkill, but I like to powerwash stuff and that helps to clean up a bit easier (plus my friend offered to do it for free ).

That's a good idea but rock chips may be harder to fix. Anyone remember Imron? It was developed for truck chassis. Hard to touch up, although I can recall when it was THE paint for show cars.

Bed liner?

My 74 challenger has Imron paint on it from 1984, has held up very well.
Like what was said, prep is more important that what paint.

IMO I would not dip it because it will make it very hard to clean out all the acid because of the way there welded togeather.
I have had great durability by blasting and painting with Eastwood Chassis Black, that's some good stuff out of a spray can.

I have got one that I did over 10 years ago with reg Eastwood Chassis black and is holding up great. I have another that I did 6 years ago that is even better. No reason to powder coat and have it rust inside from dipping. My Poweder coating is easily missed in tight places and then will rust quickly.

Does Eastwood (or anyone else) have a good chassis spray in any other color? Want to do some wheels in red

Chemical dip and "acid" are two different things. Hot tanking is not an issue.

imo, either method is going to leave it very bare inside, kinda hard to coat inside and where the 2 halfs are welded togeather. It's gonna rust there when it get's wet.

Blasting the outside you really don't disturb much inside.

I do steam clean the whole thing inside and out before blasting them. So there's no grease inside. Cheap and fast, works good for me. It's a K member...
