Need to shorten a C body housing for an A body. Also need to move perches.

When I get ready to tack on the perches I wanted to get 5 degrees up pinion angle when the perches are level. Can I just measure from the face of the housing or do I have to install the pumpkin (is the pumpkin mounting face perpendicular to the pinion shaft)?

Use the face, it should be fine.

I am wondering why you want 5* up pinion angle.

5 degrees up was suggested by Cass (Dr. Diff).

I wonder to.. optimum is 2 - 4 down at ride height....

Cass told me that with the rearend out and the perches on a level surface the pinion should be 5 degrees up. Once installed I imagine the angle with be within acceptable limits

A-body pinion-to-perch angle is 5 degrees up. This is NOT pinion angle because the springs are not parallel to the transmission.

If the rest of the drivetrain angles are stock, these dimensions will yield a 2 degree negative pinion angle once the housing is installed.

Thanks for the clarification Cass. Sorry for not being clear with the information you provided.
