i have a 1995 dakota 4x4 318 obd1. how much backpressure is needed for this engine? i am running no cat and havent noticed anything different except a bit more life in the vehicle. the reason why i am asking is i do run the truck in a local mud bog and decided to set up the exhaust so i can remouve all easily and put on a simple 2.5inch pipe from y pipe straight out to the side to help reduce the risk of tearing off. will this hurt the truck any way? it is only like this when bogging but dont want to risk hurting the engine. i have tested it and seems to still run ok and no check engine light comes on. if anything it wakes it up even more. I do have a stage 2 hughes engine intake on the motor.

Your engine will work quite well with zero backpressure. Velocity is another matter with exhaust sizing. That why one size will not fit all. Best guess with given info, your 2.5" is a good start.
