Has anybody made their own fuel tank pad? If so, what type of material did you use?

I used tar paper from the local hardware store. You will have plenty left over. I also use it on the out side of my deer blind.

Tar paper here too. Doubled up for thickness. New pads are cheap enough but the roll of tar paper was there so I went for it.

Don't use anything that will absorb moisture. I bought my old Scamp that had indoor/outdoor carpet laid in there and it had rusted the tank through w/pinholes and rusted up the bottom of the trunk floor metal.

So, tar paper is the popular choice? I have a roll of that here, but it's several years old. There was no tank pad when I removed the tank, so what can I use as a pattern?

Tar paper comes in at least 2 thicknesses. Use the thickest stuff, then you won't have to make it double layered.
