I am swapping a 440-based 500-inch stroker into my '70 Duster and planning to use Schumacher swap mounts (the car has a small-block K-member). I have the 187 oil pan that Schumacher recommends (it has a recessed area for steering linkage clearance). However, my engine will be making about 600 horsepower, and the car will be seeing some time at the drag strip. There's no way I would use that 4-quart non-baffled 187 pan as-is - I would want a deep sump and baffles. I've been told that I can weld the sump from another pan onto the bottom of the 187 and fabricate some kind of a baffle. However, that seems like a lot of work. I've seen a post on another site where someone said he had successfully used the Moroso pan No. 20760 with very little modification necessary. Even if I had to spend some time heating and pounding on the Moroso pan, I figure it would be a better solution than using that 187 pan. Does anyone have experience with this?

I've used both a Moroso and Milodon pan with no problems.I prefer the Moroso.440 in a 1971 Demon.

You can use the deep sump pans just be careful how you street drive it as the pan is out there unprotected.

Yes you will see a number of members say they have been street driving with these types pans on wagon rutted roads since the dawn of time , but I know a few people that have ripped them open driving on the street ...

Not what you requested but I'd properly baffle the 187 & maybe run an extra qt on strip days. I'm more concerned w internal oiling mods as opposed to the pan running dry and I think when it's been reported that it is due to not enough pickup/pan clearance (I like 1/8") like a straw too close to the bottom of a milkshake rather than the pan being sucked dry from either a hi vol pump and or not enough sump capacity as commonly blamed

I used the 187 pan on my 440 Valiant. I added a baffle. I posted the pattern for the baffle on Bigblockdart.com i used the Schumacher mounts too. The steering arm rubbed slightly, had to dent the high point. when I race I add an extra quart. I will try and take a picture and post it.

Thanks! I found the template. I guess that might be an option, as well, if I added an extra quart on track days. What gauge steel should I use?
