I have a 67 440 that I was told had a forged crank, it has a forged crank dampner on it ( thin round dampner ) but this crank looks like a cast crank to me. It's been a while since I've seen a factory forged crank so I'm not sure if it is or not. Does anybody have a picture of a forged 440 crank? or know of an easy was to tell?

Easiest way to tell is to look at the stamping line on the rod journals. The forged will be wide as shown here.

The cast will be a thin sharp line.

Another tell tale sign is the rounded unfinished look of the counter eights.

Like this....

A cast crank has a a more finished look with very sharp/clean edged and corners.

I'll have to compare your pictures to my crank in the morning. I saw the small pits or rough surface on the journal and the weights and it looked to me like it was from sand when it was cast but I see the same pits on the picture you showed.

The dead giveaway on the 440 cast crank is the number "440" cast onto an edge of a crank throw, I think it is on the #1.
To me, the forged counterweights look like Lima beans.
