I purchased a used metal instrument cluster frame to replace the plastic one in my 1979 Power Wagon to help avoid the ammeter meltdown issue with these trucks (as I was advised to do by several people). Eventually I will do some of the other things advised, but I wanted to get into the dash right away anyhow and replace a bunch of bulbs and faded gauges.

The 1972 ish one has two of what look like condensors attatched to circuit board. One is attached near speedometer and plugged to instrument voltage regulator, and the other wasn't plugged to anything, but was attached to circuit board near ammeter. The stock 1979 one did not have any. Is this because one is plastic and the other metal? Does the one near ammeter get plugged to ammeter (I'm assuming)?

Got this pic off the web. It's not mine but just like it except mine's not rusty.
