I have a '66 Coronet 500 Convertible but I can't decifer the whole fender tag. What I get is that it's a Coronet 500 2dr Convertible with the Premium package. Nothing else makes sense to me. I used a VIN decoder from oldride.com.
Here is what my fender tag reads:
a b c d e f g h I j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z
a=4 b=1 c=5 e=1 r=1 y=2
C0908292 WP27 P4W SS1 W
According to these numbers the engine code is "P" but there is no "P" in any of the decoders I've looked at..........

Crap! This may not even be the original fender tag?
I tried it in the decoder in the Archives but it tells me it's a '72 Chrysler from Canada!

The #'s you give look correct. 1968 and back are hard to decode. I have the GG book, but think it would be easier if you simply posted a pic of the tag.

VIN decoder and fender tag decoder are different things. The VIN is on the dash and tells you the main info about the car. The fender tag is on the fender and tells you what options the car originally came with.

whats the 5th and 6th digit of your VIN?
I think the P4W is the interior trim, and the SS1 is paint.

Is the car Yellow or Cream? SS1?
P4W:
P-Premium 4-Bucket Seats W-white and black
W: white upper door frame.
OH, and WP27 means Coronet 500 convertible.

ASSuMEing the codes you put up there are under CAPITAL LETTERS using my decades old white book...
A,B = 41 = 318 poly 2bbl carb C = 5 = torquefilte trans does not denote 904 or 727 , was there a 904 in 66 ? E= 1 = Cleaner air package (commiefornia only mandatory) R = 1 = AM radio Y = 1 = Black convertible top

The long line of letters are actually small letters and the others with the numbers are capital. Is there a difference if they are CAPITALS?
Here is the VIN #: WP27E67177122

Yes there is a difference , what I posted above was assuming they were capitals and that is what they decode to mean.

JohnRR is correct - the tag should look like this C09 is the SPD (12/9/65) & 08292 is the Shipping Order #

P4* Interior should also trigger the a/6 b/4 codes on the top line.
