Ok Tomorrow I plan on removing the crankshaft and pistons for my rebuild. It has been years since I tore one down so I need tips. The rod caps are all ready stamp with there numbers. So can I remove the crank with the pistons still in there bores,or do the pistons come out first.Looking forward to a new rebuild 360 for the Dart.

at your parts store rent a ridge reamer & carefully remove (some but NOT ALL) of the ridge. put a box end wrench on it & pull the cutter around as opposed to pushing the blade (You want the cutter to trail your wrench). then put each piston at BDC & take off the 2 nuts & tap either bolt to slightly seperate the cap from the rod then pull the cap the rest of the way off being carefull that the rod/bearing stays up to the crank then put a 3" piece and a 7" piece of neoprene 3/8" fuel line over the bolt threads then w a wooden hammer handle push the bottom of the piston until it's out of the bore & don't let it fall & hit the ground. EDIT turn eng upside down & take out the main bolts & then put each pair of bolts halfway back into each cap & use them as handles to lever and wiggle each cap up/off being carefull to not nick the crank when it comes all the way off (A helper is handy/have him have his hands on the cap so it doesn't nick the crank). Leave the #3 cap & raise the crank up a bit on each end to start to lever this cap up so you can get to it & get it off then grab the crank solidly at each end & lift the crank straight up all the way in one motion as you keep it horizontle.

Ok I got that so pistons go first.I do however have very little ring ridge so a good push should work right.Good tip on the rubber hose I forgot about that one.Good for puting it back together.

BTW an air wrench simplifies and speeds things up considerably.
