Ok, I'm slowing learning this truck, 79 D150 360, Lil Red Express. Yesterday I was a few miles from home and had a "slow" start-up, then I could tell the battery was dying on my way home. Got it home and yes the battery is dead. Haven't had time to mess with it but I did have the battery tested and it is OK.
So my question, what is the box mounted just below the driver-side hood hinge, with a 3-prong plug? It was filled with some liquid, which it looks like most of it has leaked out onto the inner fender... anything to do with the charging system?
Sorry for the basic question... got to know my 69 Coronet pretty well but this is my first one with A/C, elect. ignition, etc... several more electrical circuits. Need to get a service manual.
Thanks!
Darren

I think you are talking about the voltage regulator and it wasn't filled with a liquid. That is a resin that was poured over the electronics for protection . It just melted as they all do over the years. I would charge the battery and drive the car to a good parts store that will check the charging system for free. That beats throwing parts at it and spending money that you don't need to.

The voltage regulator is 2-wire and mounted on the firewall, above the coil, I believe?
The box I'm referring to has red, black, and green wires, the plug is "straight across", not the somewhat triangle-shaped plug like on the voltage regulator. Correct on the resin, didn't really mean to imply it was filled with some low-viscosity fluid.
At any rate, yes I will try to get it to a parts store. Thanks for your help.

Here, found a truck pic on eBay. The box I'm asking about is inside the circle.
Thanks!

Some seventies Mopars have a "Field and Load Relay" in the field wire to the alternator, not sure if trucks do.

My says it a A/C switch that cuts the A/C when you are at full throttle.

egr timer or emission control box, ... it is tied in with the charging through the j10e 14gauge red wire which is one of the wires at the voltage regulator.

Just had the same pain and the ass problem, and i replaced the connector on the volt reg....just cut one off a car at the junk yard that looked good and spliced it in....not sayin thats the problem but i messed with it for months... and it would dis-charge and over charge because of that connector wasnt making proper contact, and it looked fine
